ARF (Jackson County Humane Society) is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit corporation composed of a small group of volunteers who rescue animals from the shelter, the roads, and the community and keep them in their own homes. ARF has a no-kill policy, which means that volunteers foster the animals until someone adopts them, no matter how long it takes.  Some animals have been fostered for more than thirteen years.

Asheville Humane Society was formed in 1984 as Buncombe County Friends for Animals Inc., primarily as a governing body for the County Pet Adoption Center and Animal Shelter, which was previously operated by the County.

The Blue Ridge Humane Society, established in 1950, is a nonprofit, no kill, animal welfare organization, dedicated to ensuring a safe environment for homeless, injured, and abused animals awaiting adoption.  They are committed to proper animal care, and spay and neuter education throughout their community.

At Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption (CARA) they are dedicated to finding permanent and loving families for the homeless dogs and cats of North Carolina.

Conceived in 1996, Catman2 is managed by Dr. Harold Sims, a retired college biology professor and his wife, Kay, a retired school social worker. The cats live in a large shelter adjacent to the Sims’ home in Cullowhee, North Carolina.

The Foothills Humane Society, Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization supported by individual donations, adoption fees, fundraising activities and bequests. No governmentfunds are provided for the construction or operation of their shelter. They are dedicated to sheltering stray, homeless and abandoned animals, and to placing healthy animals inappropriate homes. The Society also provides financial assistance to people in need through its spay and neuter program. They also provide programs for educating the public in responsible pet ownership.

Friends2Ferals is dedicated to improving the lives of feral cats and humanely reducing their numbers over time utilizing the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) method. TNR has proven to be the most effective and humane method to deal with the issue of feral cats. When you contact Freinds2Ferals, their volunteers may not be able to return the call the same day but your call will be returned. Friends2Ferals volunteers assist folks in the order they are contacted and if they are very busy there may be a 2-3 week delay.

Haywood Animal Welfare Association strives to reduce pet overpopulation by providing low-cost/no-cost spay and neuter services for cats and dogs of Haywood County and through committees.  In doing so they hope to promote a community in which animals are valued, properly cared for and have a safe place to live.

Their mission is to make their community a better place by serving as an advocate for companion animals.  Their vision for the future is that no adoptable animal will be euthanized in Catawba County, and that animal cruelty and inhumane treatment of animals will cease to exist.

The Macon County Humane Society, established in 1968, has been and is a valuable service to the people of Macon County.  The Humane Society’s purpose and mission is; to provide an effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals; to establish and maintain a shelter for the humane care of animals; to distribute literature and information relevant to the protection of animals; to feed, clean, and provide medical care for stray, lost, or injured animals.

Pet Soup Rescue is a no-kill, non-profit animal rescue organization.   The rescue organization shares a space with the grooming and boarding facility. They are located in Asheville just off Brevard Rd. near the Biltmore Square Mall behind Stone Ridge Tavern.

Sarge's mission is to save healthy, adoptable animals in the Haywood County Animal Control facility. Last year over 2,400 animals in the county facility were euthanized yet a large number were highly adoptable. Sarge's takes adoptable pets from the shelter and gives them the loving care they need until their forever family adopts them.

The purpose of the Watauga Humane Society is the prevention of cruelty to animals, the relief of suffering among animals and the extension of humane education.The Watauga Humane Society's activities are heavily concentrated on reducing the number of unwanted animals. It is the duty of the Watauga Humane Society to provide humane care and treatment for all animals needing protection; to seek to return lost animals to their guardians.
