Pet Food Assistance Program
We understand that unexpected things happen in life and sometimes you might need a little help feeding your pet until things get better. ACN does not supply free pet food directly to the public, however we do provide it to our community partners who distribute it for us at no charge.
Food is distributed by our community partners as follows:
- Asheville Buncombe Christian Crisis Ministry (ABCCM) – Food is available to the public from their pantry, which is located at 24 Cumberland Avenue in the Montford area. Their hours are from 8:30 am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
- Salvation Army – Food is available to the public at their location at 204 Haywood Rd in downtown Asheville, next to the Sheriff's department.
- Meals on Wheels – Food is available for Meals on Wheels clients only. Contact Meals on Wheels for information on their eligibility requirements. 828-253-5286
- Angel Food Ministries – Reed Memorial Baptist Church in the Oakley area and Grace Baptist Church in West Asheville – Food is available for their Angel Food clients only. Information for Businesses or Individuals wishing to Donate Food to the pet food program:
We gladly accept and appreciate donations of food, litter and equipment to help reduce the costs of caring for the dogs and cats awaiting adoption. It is always preferable to keep our charges on the same type of pet food to reduce stomach upset. We gladly accept and appreciate all donations, but in particular we need:
- Kitten food
- Regular Adult Dog food, canned and dry
- Regular Adult Cat food, dry
- Scoopable Kitty Litter
The Pet Food Assistance Program distributes canned and dry dog and cat food to community agencies that assist those in financial need. Our needs vary, but in general, we are most in need of:
- Regular Dry and canned Adult Dog food
- Kitten and Puppy food
- Canned and dry Cat food
- Large heavy duty Ziploc bags (1 gallon, 2 gallon or 3 gallon big bags) for repacking food.
