ACN E-Newsletter: November 12, 2008

Hi Animal Compassion Networkers,

Twenty-five enjoyable and affordable wines to sample, the live jazz stylings of One Leg Up, 150 silent auction items for early holiday shopping, and conversations and laughter with like-minded animal lovers. Is it possible such a paradise exists?

It not only exists, it's happening tomorrow night, Thursday, November 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Coleman Place on the top floor of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce! Tickets are still available at Pet Harmony or online here but hurry. Tickets in advance are only $30, but we have to stop selling them at noon tomorrow (Thursday). After that, they will be $35 at the door. Still a bargain, but wouldn't you rather put that $5 savings into a 1983 fully refurbished Jaguar XJ-6 or a Grove Park Inn golf package or local mountain pottery and jewelry, or a day of housecleaning, or a dental for your pet or a fantastic getaway trip for you and your pet? Yes, these are just a few of the exciting items that are available for bidding in tomorrow night's silent auction. Get all your holiday shopping done while you sip on a glass of Jacob's Creek Sparkling wine and enjoy the vegetarian gourmet hors d'oeuvres. Don't forget, all of the wines you will be tasting are available for purchase by the bottle or case for all those holiday parties coming up (or just a quiet night at home.)

Best of all, the proceeds from the tickets, silent auction, raffle, and wine sales will all benefit ACN's Foster/Adoption Program. Animals in WNC are being surrendered to area shelters at alarming rates as people lose their means to care for them in this economy. But you can help. Come on out tomorrow night, bid on some great prizes and order some wine. Your support get pets out of shelters and into foster families until they can be adopted. I can't think of a better reason to put on your dancing shoes and have a great time. Hey, it's for the animals - you're just doing your part. That's my argument for bidding on the Jaguar anyway. Now if I could only make my husband see the light...

A huge thank you to our sponsors for making this 5th Annual Taste of Compassion a reality. All of the wine comes to us from Mutual Distributing, representing Biltmore Estate, Rosenblum, Jacob's Creek, Toasted Head and so many more great wines. Do yourself a favor and make sure you hit the Red Truck table tomorrow night. It was our best-selling wine last year. Gourmet vegetarian fare is being provided by Laughing Seed, Nona Mia, Well-Bred Bakery, Filo, La Paz and Firenze Cheeses. The Medicine Shoppe and Dr. David Crouch of Western North Carolina Veterinary Surgery are generously sponsoring the event venue with help from and Kimmel and Associates. Did you know that The Medicine Shoppe can help with your pet's pharmacy needs? Check them out on Merrimon Ave. And Dr. Crouch will always have a special place in my heart after I watched him piece back together a 3-legged dog with a broken back. Everyone said it couldn't be done, but by golly he made that dog walk again. PostNet is graciously donating all of our printing needs, and Clear Channel Radio Group has done a wonderful job of advertising Taste of Compassion on all of their stations (and has been nice enough to let us come on the air and talk about animals. A LOT.) In fact, 104.3 talent Kim Matthews will be our emcee tomorrow night! Mountain Xpress also sponsored print advertising. And we are so fortunate that One Leg Up is donating their talent for the event, as they have in years past. Animal Compassion Network has many friends and we are grateful to them all. I'd also like to take a moment to recognize the wonderful work of Ann McMartin and Krista Luck, event organizers, and the army of volunteers who have put their all into making the event a memorable one.

Please take a moment to thank our sponsors the next chance you get. And please patronize their places of business. It is really something that they are so very giving to animals in need when everyone is feeling the pinch of the economy. It takes true animal lovers to donate now, so if you have the opportunity to send business their way, they deserve it.

Those of you who have never been to Taste of Compassion before are in for a real treat and those of you returning, well, you already know what fun we are about to have! We are going to help many, many animals in need tomorrow night. I am so excited to see you all there.

Yours in rescue,
Eileen
