ACN E-Newsletter: October 15, 2008
Hi Animal Compassion Networkers,
We have some great news to announce... ACN was selected to receive a grant for $2000 from the Humane Society of the US to fund our lifesaving programs designed to help families keep their pets through this economic crisis. Michelle Graf, ACN's Pet Food Assistance Program Coordinator, did an excellent job of spelling out the demand we are currently facing. We have never before seen such a need for these programs - the demand for free pet food alone has almost tripled in these last few months with no end in sight. But if a little pet food is all it will take to help a family between jobs, it's the best way to keep these animals in their homes and out of shelters. In fact, ACN is so efficient with our resources, we are able to feed a hungry pet in WNC for as little as $15 for 3 months. If you'd like to donate to feed a hungry pet, please click here.
With the cold weather on its way, we're also busy preparing to meet the expected increase in demand on our Dog House Program. Let's face it, we certainly think every dog should be a member of the family and sleep in the home, but not everyone in our area agrees. That's why we work through Asheville Animal Services and Buncombe County Animal Care and Control to provide free dog houses to people in need with outside-only dogs. If you have a dog house you wish to donate to the program, you may bring it to Pet Harmony or email Chris and Colleen Snyder at crsnyder@mindspring.com and we'll come pick it up from you. We also deliver care packages with food, treats and toys for the dog(s) receiving the houses, but this year we are in urgent need of straw for these houses to keep the dogs warm. Please also email Chris and Colleen if you can donate (or know of someone who might donate) straw.
It's Halloween at Pet Harmony! So I have never been one of those people who dress my pets up in little sweaters or sunglasses, but I must confess that there are some Halloween costumes at Pet Harmony right now that might just make me change my mind - just this once. There is the sweetest little ladybug, an astronaut, a lobster, a pumpkin, a jailbird, a skeleton and - too cute - a little golfer complete with a golf bag and clubs! Don't forget, all of you purchases at Pet Harmony support our lifesaving programs.
In fact, I know how difficult it is to donate right now when we're all worried about this economy, but when you shop for your pet food and supplies at Pet Harmony, you are getting something you need while helping us feed, care for and save homeless pets! And with the continued news about contamination in Chinese food sources, I know I'm relieved that Pet Harmony only carries American-made, human-grade pet food. I think you'll be surprised to find that some of our products, like Canidae - our Number 1 seller, is comparable in price (but far better in quality and nutrition) to most grocery store brands. So even if you can't afford to send in a donation right now, why not consider purchasing your pet food and supplies at the only pet supply store in town where all of the proceeds go to save homeless pets?
More big news - after only being open for 6 months, Pet Harmony was voted in the Top 3 pet supply stores in WNC through the Mountain Xpress Best of WNC vote last month! We're so proud that this community appreciates our goal to make Second-Chance Pets Everyone's First Choice!
Yours in rescue,
Eileen
