ACN E-Newsletter: September 8, 2008

Hi Animal Compassion Networkers,

It's finally here! This weekend is the 10th Annual Subaru Pet Adoptathon Fall 2008. We'll be at PETsMART in East Asheville on Saturday, September 13 and Sunday, September 14 from 11 am to 5 pm both days. ACN will be joined by several area shelters and rescue groups, including:

All American Dachshund Rescue
Asheville Humane Society
Avery County Humane Society
Blue Ridge Boxer Rescue
Foothills Golden Retriever Rescue
Haywood Co. Animal Shelter
Howlin' 4 Spirit Animal Rescue
Pet Soup Rescue
Project Paws

There will be food (veggie pizza), a live radio remote from WOXL, a raffle for a luxurious weekend get-away to Hilton Head (with a $150 gas card) and almost 100 cats and dogs hoping this will be their lucky weekend! Seventy cats and dogs found their forever home at the Subaru Pet Adoptathon this spring, so please help us spread the word about this event and let's save even more this fall!

A very special thanks goes out to Prestige Subaru for their title sponsorship of the event. By now, you've all certainly heard me rave about how much I love my Subaru Forester. But if there is anything that tops the great gas mileage, comfortable ride and enough room to fit all 8 of my animals, it's my enormous respect for the company. Subaru's manufacturing plant in Lafayette, Indiana recycles 97 percent of all excess or leftover materials, and they have designated part of their plant property as a wildlife habitat. And when it comes to homeless pets, Prestige Subaru puts their money where their mouth is. Through their title sponsorship of the Subaru Pet Adoptathon, Prestige Subaru has helped area shelters and rescue groups find loving homes for hundreds of cats and dogs over the years. I have never offered (or even been asked) to promote Prestige Subaru to you, but in a time when we hear about so many companies doing the wrong thing, I want to share the story of a company doing the right thing. Especially when that right thing includes something very dear to each of us - saving homeless pets right here in WNC.

Keller
Keller
I do have to tell you about one sweetheart in particular who you just have to meet... At 10 years old, Keller is a spunky senior kitty with a ton of personality. As you probably guessed from her name, this darling  is completely deaf, and that means she can be quite loud when she wants your attention. Hey, maybe you know someone who is a little hard of hearing who would appreciate a loud meow? Or maybe you just know someone who has been looking for a gentle, affectionate cat who wants to center her universe around you?

Just heard from our friends over at ChainFree Asheville, a new group dedicated to get dogs off chains in Asheville. For all those interested, they will be meeting on September 16 at the North Asheville Public Library. For times and contact info, please visit them at www.chainfreeasheville.org.

We'll see you this weekend for the Subaru Pet Adoptathon! Please tell your friends!

Yours in rescue,
Eileen

PS. If you can download and print out a Subaru Pet Adoptathon Fall 2008 flyer to hang at your school, office, grocery store, place of worship or community center, you can download a PDF at the bottom of this page.
