ACN E-Newsletter August 27, 2008

Hi Animal Compassion Networkers,

Okay, I admit it. I already have the sound of 32 paws prancing around my house, but there is just something about the pitter patter of those miniature paws that fills me with longing. Toss in tiny mews and yelps with that puppy and kitten breath and I'm a goner. I used to be able to get my fix by fostering litters, but that's no longer an option for me. Sound familiar? Well, Michelle Graf, our wonderful and creative Pet Food Coordinator, has come up with the perfect solution for all of you who want to get some kitten and puppy lovin' without taking them home with you. Michelle is throwing a baby animal shower for all of the puppies and kittens we have in the network and you're invited! If you'd like to bring a gift to the shower, we really need some puppy and kitten food, as well as a bunch of kitty litter. (You'd think these kittens had some Great Dane in them!) But feel free to just come and cuddle with or without a gift.

The Baby Animal Shower is this Sunday, August 31 from 1 to 3 pm at Pet Harmony, ACN's pet store for rescued pets. There will be games and refreshments (you will experience a cuteness overload when you see the animal cupcakes our president Krista is making for the event), but best of all, there will be baby animals everywhere for you to get your puppy and kitten fix! If you do know someone thinking about adopting, this would be a great time to bring them along.

Immediate Need! We have an urgent need for animal care volunteers at Pet Harmony on Saturdays from 9am to 1 pm and 3 to 5 pm. Please email Anne Jordan at wannejordan@bellsouth.net if you can volunteer. Help an animal and have some fun!

The Mountain Xpress is currently holding their "Best of WNC" vote. If you appreciate the thousands of animals ACN has saved, fostered, adopted out, fed, and assisted with spaying/neutering this year, please go to  http://www.mountainx.com/bestof/vote  under Pets and vote for Animal Compassion Network as your favorite rescue center. If you love the fact that Pet Harmony rolls all proceeds from the sale of pet supplies back into saving homeless animals, please vote for Pet Harmony as your favorite pets supply store. And if you love that 40% of Pet Harmony's grooming fees are directed to local animals in need, please vote for Pet Harmony's Sheila Hipps for favorite groomer. The more publicity we receive, the more animals we can save.

Save the dates: September 13 and 14 for the Subaru Pet Adoptathon Fall 2008 at PETsMART in east Asheville, 11 am to 5 pm both days. Numerous rescue groups will join ACN, including All American Dachshund Rescue, Asheville Humane Society, Avery County Humane Society, Haywood County Animal Shelter, Howlin' 4 Spirit Animal Rescue, Pet Soup Rescue and several other all breed and pure breed rescue organizations.

November 13, 2008 for the Fifth Annual Taste of Compassion, a wine tasting and silent auction with live music from One Leg Up and gourmet vegetarian appetizers. We are currently seeking silent auction items. If you'd like to make a tax-deductible donation of a good or service for the auction, please contact Ann McMartin at annmcmartin@hotmail.com. By the way, this year we have been requested to increase the number of items a man would want to bid on (we know how you men are needing your shopping fix!), so please contact us, especially if you can offer something to keep the men happy! We need volunteers to help organize the event, too!

Watch for upcoming news that our new ACN website is going live. We owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to Bob and Timmy Ballard for a decade of service as the ACN website creators and webmasters and also to Suzi Katz of www.alicewebdesign.com for creating our fantastic new website!

Yours in rescue,
Eileen

PS. We discovered that although Frontline is now available without a prescription, the makers only want it distributed through your vet's office, so we will no longer carry it at Pet Harmony. But we have just gotten in a full line of supplements and remedies, approved by our staff pharmacists, for your pet's health needs. Come see Linda today if you're interested in trying an all-natural approach to healing dry, itchy skin, digestive issues, anxiety, and joint and mobility problems. She knows natural pet health!
