Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Assistance

About the Betty Fund

Animal Compassion Network's Betty Fund is an assistance program designed to pay up to the full cost for an animal to be spayed or neutered at the Humane Alliance Spay/Neuter Clinic in Asheville.

Who Can Apply

Anyone needing financial assistance to offset the cost of surgery at the Humane Alliance Spay/Neuter Clinic is welcome to apply for Betty Fund assistance. You will be asked for a $25 co-pay, although the inability to afford a co-pay will not prevent you from receiving a Betty Fund Voucher. You may be asked to show proof of financial need to qualify for the low-income program.

How to Apply

You may apply for the Betty Fund Low-Income Assistance Program in person at Pet Harmony or by printing and completing the Betty Fund Application and mailing it to ACN’s Betty Fund, 803 Fairview Street, Asheville, NC 28803. Please include a check or money order for your $25 co-pay if you are mailing in your application, unless you have made prior arrangements with a Betty Fund coordinator.

The Betty Fund Story

Betty of The Betty Fund : Animal Compassion Network, Asheville NC
Betty with her new
brother, Jordan

The Betty Fund Spay/Neuter Program was established in 2000 in honor of a two-year-old stray Golden Retriever mix. Betty gave birth to 18 puppies in just one year. It wasn't until Animal Compassion Network became involved that this terrible cycle stopped. Betty's last litter of eight pups was rescued from the mud underneath a trailer and put into a foster home. Betty was rescued, spayed, and put into rehabilitation.

Betty's Pups

Betty now has a wonderful, loving family and her puppies went on to carefully screened homes. But the costs of this one rescue were staggering; hundreds of dollars were spent in medical expenses, food, and care for the dog and her eight pups. In response, ACN started the Betty Fund with the sole purpose of providing spay/neuter assistance to those in need, to prevent more cases like Betty’s.
